Fairfield no longer participates in the SATs assessments but when we did, Fairfield School children consistently achieved well above the national average in the SATs assessments.
In order to track and monitor their progress and development, our children sit termly assessments in reading comprehension, reading skills, grammar, punctuation and spelling and in maths; these are nationally recognised standardised assessments whose content matches the National Curriculum.

Academic Performance 2021-2022:
In 2021-2022 five of our eight Year 6 children took entrance examinations for independent senior schools; all of them were offered places at their choice of senior schools for September 2022 and three of the children gained a total of four scholarships to a range of local independent senior schools. This fantastic achievement is a reflection of their ability, determination and hard work and of their thorough preparation. Our warmest congratulations go to them all and to their families! This is a remarkable achievement for a school of our size and for the number of our children who apply annually in each of our Year 6 cohorts.
Fairfield tracks and monitors the progress and development of our pupils by using termly assessments in reading comprehension and reading skills and maths; these are nationally recognised standardised assessments whose content matches the 2014 National Curriculum. Although there is no formal definition as to which standardised score is the threshold for a child to be at the expected stage, we can use our assessments to make a judgement against the year-related expectations of the 2014 NC. Results of these assessments have confirmed 100% of our Year 6 children achieved the expected standard or above in the reading comprehension and skills assessments. In the maths assessments, 75% of our Year 6 children (six out of eight children) achieved the expected standard or above. These figures include those of our children with learning difficulties and/or special educational needs.
Academic Performance 2022-2023:
In 2022-2023 all of our Year 6 children took entrance examinations for independent senior schools; all of them were offered places at their choice of senior school for September 2023 and three of the children gained a total of 6 scholarships to a range of local independent senior schools.
Based on our internal termly assessments using nationally recognised standardised assessments, 90% (nine out of ten children) of our Year 6 children achieved the expected standard or above in reading comprehension and skills and 80% (eight out of ten children) of our Year 6 children achieved the expected standard or above in maths. These figures include those of our children with learning difficulties and/or special educational needs.
Academic performance 2023-2024
In 2023-2024 twelve Year 6 children took entrance examinations for independent senior schools and between them they received five scholarship offers and sixteen offers of places.
Based on our internal termly assessments using nationally recognised standardised assessments, 100% of our Year 6 children achieved the expected standard or above in reading comprehension and skills and 85% (eleven out of thirteen children) achieved the expected standard or above in maths. These figures include those of our children with special educational needs and/or learning difficulties.
Transfer to Senior Schools
We have an outstanding record for preparing children for transfer at age 11 to local independent and maintained senior schools. These schools include:
Academic scholarships are often offered by receiving independent senior schools to our pupils for Year 7 entry. Over the past few years, our pupils have been awarded a significant, high number of scholarships for a wide range of skills and abilities: academic, sporting, music and performing arts. This is a remarkable achievement for a school of our size and one of which we are justifiably very proud.
“We moved our son to Fairfield as we felt he needed a nurturing and caring environment coupled with an education to suit his individual needs and, after much consideration, we chose Fairfield as we felt it ticked all the boxes. However, we obviously hoped all we had been told and had seen would be proven once he started.”
