There is a high standard in the creative arts, especially the quality of pupils’ musical achievement.
ISI Report, 2011
Music forms an integral part of our curriculum and is usually linked to our whole school themed approach to the curriculum. Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and our Infant Department perform separate Nativity plays, complete with songs and dances. The children in EYFS perform again in the summer term.
Our annual Carol Service is a further opportunity for the children to display their talents in music and public speaking.
Termly drama productions always include music and singing, as do our regular class assemblies. Children can choose to join the choir and hymn practice is a weekly assembly.
Our children study individual composers and genres of music, from Mozart to heavy metal, Vivaldi to rock and pop and we welcome visiting musicians, who bring different aspects of music to life for our children. We also arrange visits to concert halls to further enrich the curriculum and take part in charity concerts locally. Our children have performed in Bristol at St George’s Hall, St Mary Redcliffe and St Stephen's.
Extra-curricular music activities include: brass, guitar, handbells, piano, percussion, recorders and woodwind. The children gain valuable experience in performing in front of an audience when they play at our regular peripatetic showcases.
